Title/Job Descritption

Location

Responsibilites/Role

Technology Services

Admin Building

There key role is to make sure the entire network for the district is running properly to allow us access to the programs we need. They also hold staff development at the district level that they feel would benefit teachers technology basics.

Administrators

Campus

To make sure they allocate enough money in the buget to take care of the technology budget.

Teachers

Classroom

They must make sure they are taking plenty of technology update classes and implementing all the technology they can in the classroom.

Parents

Home

If possible have them sit with their kid at home and do activities on the computer that have to do with what they are learning in school.

Technology Liason

Campus

They will make sure that the technology on campus is up to date and that we have the latest items that are available at the district level.

The principal is the middle man that must keep this program together. He is the person that is in charge of keeping all of his teachers up to date with what is happening with technology at the district level and relaying the information to his campus staff. He is also the person that makes sure the teachers are doing what they are supposed to with the children in the classroom. He must monitor their classroom and make sure they have the resources available in order to do relay all information to the students. They also has to make sure the teachers are communicating and sending valuable infomration home to the parents in for them to assist in the process as well.

To ensure that we cover all of the topics above we are starting PLC’s next year. These Professional Learning Communities will allow our tech savvy teachers that have on campus create professional learning development series that incorporates all the information teachers need to succeed in their classrooms. They will pull information that we received on the STAR charts, surveys, and overall comments listed that they feel they could improve on. Even though our campus is one of the high percentage that has economically disadvantaged students we are very fortunate to have promethean boards from PK-5 in all classrooms. Even though these teachers have these boards in their classroom they are lacking the skills they need to do all of the wonderful things they are available. With these PLC trainings we will be able to talk with the staff either by surveys or word of mouth and understand what they feel is important to them to learn at these trainings. Most teachers learn by example so giving someone a topic that you are interested in and having them present it to you would be more beneficial than them just saying this is how you do it. By adminsitering these PLC’s it will allow all teachers on campus to get a better feel for the boards and use them to their advantage. They can start to gather their own data in order to assit their students and reteach information immediately if need by instead of having to go back after a few days when they grade work the students have done. The feedback you get when using this technology in the classroom is so much faster and really overall beneficial to you and the students. In the interview they talked about “Bring it to the table” and with these PLC’s that is exactly what we are doing. We are having a set group of teachers that are avaialble to everyone and you are able to ask them questions and get a in full detail answer to what you are looking for.

After looking at all of the data we have and what our goals are for technology they are very specific and include lots of great ideas. I do feel that none of these things are being done from any person that is supposed to be involved though. I am hoping with the PLC’s that we can take a closer look into these goals and set a timetable and start reaching them one at a time. I feel that it is so overwhelming when you look at it that you just lose sight in what the main idea is. By taking them one by one you will be able to set smaller goals and reach them one by one.

The overall goal of these professional development sessions and the overall monitoring of technology in the classroom will be done by surveys and evaluations. Given that each teacher has to be using technology in their classroom then at any given time you should be able to walk in there and see what they are doing to incorporate their lesson into it. Having teachers meet with each other by subject will also be a good tool so that they can brainstorm and come up with ideas that they can use in the classroom that will be beneficial to the students and also give them feedback on how well the students are doing.

We are transforming into a world that is more concerned with our students will be able to adapt and use the skills that they need in the 21st century rather what they can do with pen and paper. It is first and foremost a teacher’s responsibility to learn the skills needed and have the materials in order to relay them to their students. They must do this by teaching first basic skills such as operations and privacy acts and move forward with more complex tasks such as research and connecting with other cultures and data through an infrastructure. The overall idea for technology from teacher to student is to engage their deeper level thinking and allow them to explore things that interest them and you be a co-teacher of sort. By doing this we are teaching them not only how to use technology properly but we are also giving them the freedom and independence needed to build their confidence they will need as they venture out into the real world one day. This will open a door of great opportunity for them and allow them to experience things they may not have otherwise. By reaching these goals we will be able to prepare our children for the future of the 21st century and beyond and allow them be a step above their competition in the career world. We as teachers must do this with the force and passion that will keep the students engaged and on the right path as there will be many temptations that could deter them from this path they are destined for.

The overall idea for the progress report is to go back and analyze technology and how it is being used in the classroom. Technology is the classroom and getting students to use it outside of the classroom if it is accessible is one of the main focuses in this report. There were several surveys and tests taken in order to see how well teachers are using this technology in the classroom and how much students know. Schools are also being rated to which they have used technology to their advantage and to what level they have done so. You must have a building block foundation for students in younger grades in order to build their knowledge as they go grade level by grade level. Making sure that each of these tasks are learned in these grade level is essential in order for the students to succeed in this technologically based world they will have to endure as they get older. It is very important that administrators and teachers are on the same page with using this in the classroom as they all must embrace success for the benefit of the students. The four basic topics that are covered are the teaching and learning, preparation and development, administration support, and infrastructure for technology. These take a look at the main components of how technology is being used and how it should be used. The teaching and learning is based on what the teacher is teaching in the classroom and how the students need to learn. The preparation and development are the tools we need in order to be prepared to teach all of these technological information. Administration support is having them backing you by budget and making sure you have all of the resources you need. Lastly, infrastructure for technology is making sure that you have access to the internet and beyond in order to operate all of this technology.

Teacher and learning are very important in today’s school system. In order for students to succeed in these ever changing times it is our responsibility to teach and make technology readily accessible for our students. In order for them to reach their full potential then it is a necessity for our classrooms to be equipped with resources that our students may never get to see outside of their home. Many students such as the one I teach in my students don’t have access to computers outside of the classroom or even have the means to leave their neighborhood. I feel that the progress in our local area is more up to date or even equal to those in more established districts. We have been able to get money and allocate it towards the technology our students need. We have been able to do this by our state that has made it possibly by grants and other title funds. Trends that are up and coming are very important as well because technology changes everyday and it is up to each of these levels to keep the staff developments and information available to keep these current in the classroom. The main problem I see that has been consistent across the board is getting the time necessary to teach all of these technological terms to our students. We have to focus so much on the core subjects that we are not able to set aside time to incorporate all of these important tools the students will need.

Questions:

How did the behavior and daily consistency of students in our school’s common areas improve after the safe and civil lesson plans were implemented by every faculty and staff member in the school?

Goal:

To help strengthen safety within our school by creating policies and procedures in common areas that will decrease office referrals throughout the school.
